Ok, Now What: Advertise Your Services On Your Existing Website

Marketing yourself as a web designer is not all that different from marketing yourself as a photographer. You’re delivering a high-quality visual product to your client, but you’re selling more than a website. You’re also selling yourself as a business partner. So just like with photography, your prospective clients are going to want to see samples of your work. That way, they can learn why you are unequivocally the best person to build them a new website.

Fortunately, you aren’t out in the wilderness on this — after all, we’ve been doing this for 15 years and we’re here to help!

It’s imperative to advertise your web design services. Otherwise, no one will know that you design websites. Make sure that the way you advertise matches the way you’re offering the service. For example, if you’re wrapping web design into your existing personal branding packages, add web design to your existing personal branding page. If this is a more dramatic expansion of your business model, you’ll want to give it its own, dedicated area of your site to serve as a portfolio.

Like with photography, if you expect clients to buy, they’ll want to see your work. This way, prospective customers can see how great your websites are and know the quality of the product you’ll be delivering. It’s best to show off a range of different styles in your portfolio (just like you do with your photography) and use several different templates to design your sample sites.

If you’re just starting, you may not have any PhotoBiz websites to put in your web design portfolio yet. No problem. Again, web design and photography aren’t that different. When you picked up a camera for the very first time, you probably ran around and took pictures of whatever you could, regardless of whether anyone was paying you to do it.

Getting started in the world of web design is much the same. We give you the ability to create unlimited trial accounts through your Partner dashboard. So, go ahead and use that functionality! Create a few design mockups that you can use to advertise until you get more clients.

Make some different sites that show off a variety of website styles that would be appealing to your future customers. Take screenshots and add them to a portfolio on your website to advertise your services. Be sure to link each screenshot to the sample site so prospective clients can see more of your design capabilities.

Each new site you create will use an automatically generated subdomain (something.photobiz.com). If you like, we can help you personalize this subdomain to deliver a more tailored experience.

Last but not least, be sure to SEO your web design page and portfolio! After all, this is an aspect of your business that you want to get found on Google for. We’ve got some great SEO tips to help you out on our Growth Hub, or you can talk to us about our SEO Go service if you’d like us to do it all for you.

Once that’s done, you have one of the biggest pieces of your marketing ready to go!

While there’s plenty more that you can do to find clients (we’ve covered some of that already), getting your portfolio set up unlocks doors just like it does with photography.

You can show off your work in person and online. This portfolio functions as a ready-made landing page for people searching Google for a great web designer like you! And you can even use your portfolio to show off the variety of templates available to your clients.

The bottom line, though, is that your web design portfolio is a tool that puts your existing website to work for you all over again so that you can start bringing in clients and new cashflow.

If you have any questions or need any more help, let us know! We’re here for you as a partner to your growing web design business.
